Tam Awan celebrates 15th TIAF

Baguio City – 700 artists converge for the 15th Tam-Awan International Arts Festival (TIAF) bringing 100 galleries, art groups and cultural organizations together for a weekend of collaboration.
TIAF 15 opens today, October 10, organized by Chanum Foundation Incorporated and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts themed “The Curation Journey: Living Galleries, telling stories,”’ focusing on the symbiotic relationship the gallery as an artistic and cultural hub with the artist and artisans.
Organized by the Chanum Foundation Incorporated with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the festival has become a highlight in the celebration of celebration of Museums and Galleries Month.
Jordan Mang-osan, president of Chanum Foundation welcomes the annual convergence of artistry and is a testament to the power of creativity which is harnessed by the festival.
Tam-awan village’s Main and Ugnayan Gallery will exhibit over 100 works from community galleries all over the country who have made the annual festival a renewal of artistry, camaraderie and networking.
The 15th TIAF’s aims to put into the spotlight the importance of the curatorial journey with talks by Ken Esguerra from the Ayala Museum will focus on art curatorship with Kublai Milan who will focus on public art with culture advocate, Atty Trixie Cruz Angeles, who will delve into the role of artists in Philippine history, Dennis Montera, who heads the National Committee on Visual Arts for the NCCA, who will expound on the role of government to artists.
Traditional tattoo demo will be given by Amin Acha-ur while the Bag-iw sketchers will likewise guide participants into a sketch walk throughout the village capped by a “latag” or exposition of works daily. Traditional backstrap weavers, Rose Safawil Tauli
The TIAF is adopted as a special project by the NCCA Committee on Arts and Galleries, aiming to bring together galleries, artists, and curators to exchange best practices and establish a regional network of art groups, opening up new opportunities.
The festival is envisioned to become a living gallery fostering an exchange of ideas among curators from all over the Philippines, while emphasizing the importance of a curated exhibition.
The festival runs till October 12, Sunday.
