PUNI-AS, a local term for the Waray-warays of Leyte meaning sunrise, rises over Kasikasi Art Association, as it paints the morning sky with a spectrum of hues as varied as the stories of its people.

After seven years of hiatus, Kasikasi rises back with PUNI-AS, serves as a metaphor for renewal, gathering its members to reunite and collaborate. From the delicate strokes of realism to the bold expressions of abstract art, this exhibition reflects the province’s rich tapestry of creativity, illuminating the unique perspectives while capturing moments of reflection, awakening and transformation. Each work is a ray of light, contributing to a collective dawn that highlights the interplay between tradition and evolution in Leyte’s art scene. This gathering of artists showcases the vibrant unity of diversity, reminding us that every stroke of creativity holds the promise of hope, inspiration, and infinite possibility, the first light of a new day.

About the Art Group
The Kasikasi Art Association was organized in 2000 for the purpose of hosting the Visayas Visual Arts Exhibition and Conference (VIVA EXCON) in Tacloban City in that same year. Kasikasi was composed of Leyte-based artists who, although coming from different art groups, bonded together to ensure a well-run hosting of the biennale. Some of these artists were Crispin Asensi, Boboy Peñas, Ernie Ybañes, Dante Enage, Billy Pomida, Nick Latoja, Leo Villaflor, Rico Palacio, Archie Zabala, Leo Acebedo, Ed Rompal, Atilda Pamen, Bebot Flandez and Raul Agner. Even after the successful hosting of VIVA EXCON, Kasikasi became active in the local exhibition scene, putting up shows not only in Tacloban but also in other cities and towns in Leyte and Samar and later in Manila. Kasikasi today is not as active as before as many of its members have returned to their respective art groups. It does however reunite whenever an opportunity to participate in larger exhibition programs presents itself.
